SpineCheck is an exciting new service at The Poynton SpineCare Institute. It has been developed specifically to address the increasing problem of recurrent low back pain in the general population.
For the majority of people with back pain the best management plan is education, exercise and lifestyle modification. However in many cases back pain reoccurs. At The Poynton SpineCare Institute we see many patients who recover from a bout of back pain but then suffer a relapse of severe pain. We have therefore created a bespoke service for assessing spinal health . We are offering this to people who may never have back pain or have recovered from an episode and wish to have a preventative strategy. This is not only relevant to those with jobs that involve manual handling but probably more important to those with sedentary lifestyles.
SpineCheck aims to address modifiable risk factors for spinal pain and identify movement restrictions and muscle function impairments, all of which increase the risk of recurrent low back pain. The assessment involves a full analysis of the nervous system and a state of the art musculoskeletal movement analysis, The Performance Matrix (TPM). The Poynton SpineCare Institute is the first TPM accredited movement centre in Ireland and is part of an elite group of movement therapists within Europe.
On completion of the assessment a full objective report of the analysis is generated. After a SpineCheck appointment clients can avail of one-to-one training sessions with one of our Spinal Specialist Physiotherapists to address any movement and structural faults identified which may predispose to recurrent spinal pain. Clients are re-evaluated using the TPM movement analysis at different intervals in their retraining to monitor their progress and give objective feedback allowing them to track their progress.
SpineCheck is for the active individual, from office worker to the elite sporting athlete. The only criteria is to have no history of spinal surgery or spinal injections and be pain free for 6 weeks and independently mobile. If you have a history of spinal surgery or spinal injections and have not been to The Poynton SpineCare Institute previously we will need a referral from either your GP or Consultant. The assesement is a physical test that can take up to 1 hour to complete so the ability to maintain activity for this amount of time is essential.
SpineCheck is a self-referral process where clients can make an appointment without a referral from a health care physician ( see above re history of spine surgery). SpineCheck appointments are with Spinal and TPM Accredited Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists. The Physiotherapy team have years of experience in rehabilitating a wide variety spinal pathology with clients of varied activity levels and age groups.
